Lift off from the coast at Kota Kinabalu and watch as
forested ridges give way to the vast, perfectly
scalloped rim of Maliau Basin, a million-year-old
‘lost world’ that most visitors reach only after days
of overland travel. From the seat of a four-seater
helicopter, trace rivers, waterfalls and untouched
canopy, circling the basin’s amphitheatre of jungle
before following the sinuous course of the
Kinabatangan back towards the sea.

Off the beaten track experiences
Sabah, Borneo
Head off the beaten track from AlUla by Land Rover
Defender bound for the protected Sharaan Nature
Reserve, where sheer cliffs and sculpted sandstone
towers frame quiet canyons. Short guided walks
reveal rock inscriptions and desert flora before
sunset canapés at a panoramic lookout. The day
ends at a lantern-lit camp with a generous open air
dinner and stargazing beneath remarkable dark
skies.
